2010 Review and 2011 Goals

So, if there's one thing I love about this time of the year is that everybody posts their year in review which invariably means I find fic which I didn't know existed for other authors and get to take a look at what I've produced myself.  Format was snurched from annerb with her permission last year. :)

Stargate (33):
Aftershocks (15): (Disclosure to Birthright)
Five Things (5)
Sam/Jack (6): Happily Ever After, The Wrong Timeline: Making it RightFlowers in Washington, In the Shadows, Deny, Endure, Embrace, An Unexpected Christmas Present
Other (7): Crossroads (Jennifer Keller/Rodney McKay), No Regrets (Sam and Janet friendship), T is for Team (Team), One Small Step (Cassie & Team), B is for Betrayal (Jonas), Conversations to an Empty Room (Team with Sam/Jack), Worth It (Unpublished)

Airwolf (1): Someone to Watch Over Us

The Questions

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?

Less than I thought I would but I have been writing non-fiction for an online magazine (if you haven't checked it out, you should!) and writing psychology essays too so I think it's probably OK that I am where I am on the fiction front - although I would have liked to have gotten further with the original novel.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2010?

McKeller and Stargate Atlantis in general.  But I ended up rewatching SGA back to back and muse was inspired so...there you go. Also Doctor Who because juggling Airwolf and Stargate is enough without adding another fandom.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

Fanfic wise my biggest risk was the thing I almost published last; the McKeller fic, Crossroads which is present tense (I usually use past) and very much a character POV/character study of a point in time rather than action/adventure.  There's also a much larger piece that is still unfinished (also present tense) that I consider a big risk.  Both of them have meant that I pay more attention to my tenses now.

Original fic wise my biggest risk was NaNoWriMo where I once again failed to make the word count but I think I have spent valuable time on characterisation and plotting that was very needed.

My Best Story of the Year

That's a hard question this year.  I think One Small Step.  It was a Cassie focused fic, good action/adventure, made use of all the SG characters.  I also have a soft spot for A Tale of Two Jacks which was the Aftershocks TAG to Fragile Balance.

Story Most Under Appreciated by the Universe in My Opinion

I guess the one that's had the least amount of love is Crossroads.  But it was a departure for me as a writer and I'm guessing for my readers. Having said that, what few reviews it has received have been very positive so I'm happy overall.

I also thought No Regrets would pick up more love than it did with it being a Sam and Janet friendship fic.

Most Fun Story

Probably T is for Team that I did for the Team Alphabet Soup although Flowers in Washington was also fun (the Flowers stories always are).

Most Sexy Story

Possibly the R rated snippet I posted to the dayofindulgence  ficathon in the Amnesty period.  Otherwise, the most adult and sexy is probably The Wrong Timeline: Making it Right (a 2010 Missing Scene) which was also written for the same ficathon.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters

Aftershocks continues to shift my perception all the time but I think B is for Betrayal really consolidated my love for Jonas and who Jonas is during the Ori occupation but Final Curtain (a Five Things fic focused on Teal'c) definitely had me pinpointing that Teal'c would still deep down fear meeting Apophis in the afterlife.

Biggest Disappointment

In terms of goals/aims, probably not writing more Aftershocks. Otherwise, Conversations to an Empty Room which I think just didn't come out the way I wanted it to.
